AGENDA and Notes

  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Share Success and Things Learned
    • Moody/ Lowndes- The Archery and other shooting sports training are available if Moody chooses to participate.  Mrs. Linda did inform us that Moody AFB CYP did shut down on July 7th and we are unaware of plans for reopening.
    • Dobbins/ Houston- Virtual babysitting program was pushed back. Sam is looking into club meetings for the 2020-2021 school year to include Robins AFB.
    • Robins / Cobb- Due to Covid-19 Mr. Marc and Mrs. Brittani decided to not partner as there were to many changing variables. They have stayed in contact and hope to partner in the future. Mr. Marc has been offering programs virtually to youth and families. Mr. Marc also shared with Brittani two new volunteers!
  • Currently what is your most immediate needs?
    • Staff training
      • Civic, racial, social unjust lessons and training available
        • I plan to work to compile a list of training and lessons related to this topic. Mr. Jason State 4-H Leadership Specialist will review the list I compile and once that is completed, I will share with the group via the blog.
        • Recently on the blog, I have shared several trainings related to afterschool programming, science, and healthy living.
        • If there is a cost associated with a 4-H training/resource let us know and we will investigate covering those fees.
      • Other topics?
        • Please let us know if there are topics staff need training on. I will work to locate trainings and share out. Email laurwalt@uga.edu
    • Resources- We have been sharing resources via the blog. We know base staff are currently providing full-time care for youth (if open). Looking ahead into the Fall there is a potential for extended care hours dependent on school closures/flexible school schedules, so the need for additional lessons is high. The Georgia 4-H Military team will continue to share resources with base/county staff, and we welcome ideas too.
  • Upcoming Resources from National 4-H
    • National Youth Science Day/ 4-H STEM Challenge (the new name of the program)
      • Training and kits will be available to all base staff
      • For those who complete the program, a new reporting will be available. The reporting tool will be released this Fall.
    • Babysitting Curriculum
      • The virtual babysitting lesson is ready now for use based on the 2008 curriculum. Contact Laura Goss for the resource and for assistance in implementing the program.
        • Sam Price and Robins AFB will be hosting a virtual babysitting program soon. Great work to the Houston County 4-H team!
      • An updated curriculum will come out in September. It will be a resource you can download / one I can share virtually with you all.  The Army, Kansas State University, and several Extension staff have been working on the update. The update will include new graphics, updated information on first aid, and additional tools for youth.
  • Reporting for Grant Numbers- Please turn in numbers by the end of July
    • We need youth and volunteer numbers for on-base programming from October 2019-June 2020
      • Provide ages of youth
      • Topics Covered
    • If you incorporated volunteers provide the quantity too

    • Teen Summit Connection
      • This program is on-going right now for military youth ages 14-18
        • There are 3 sessions that last no more than 2 hours each.  Session 2 and 3 are still open for applicants. Please promote to your families.  Registration is required for attendees.

          • I will package lessons at the end of the month and release them via the blog. I will update the lessons based on the current live sessions.
        • Base/county staff can partner with Laura Goss to host the virtual program, Teen Summit Connection. The base/county would manage the registration of teens and Laura would handle the educational teaching virtually with assistance from staff to manage risk management.
    • The next meeting will be sometime in October.
      • Note at the next October meeting we will need youth and volunteer numbers for July through September.
      • I will send out a doodle poll closer to date to determine a meeting date/time.
