Camp Description:

Get ready for exciting hands-on classes, high-ropes challenges, the star-studded Wahsega Talent Show, sliding down the waterfalls, playing in the creek, swimming in the pond, campfires, tubing down mountain rivers… and a whole lot more!

The Wahsega 4-H Center has been hosting high-quality summer camp programs for over 80 years and is part of the University of Georgia Extension program, a name that is trusted for quality programs and well-trained staff. Camp Wahsega is in a beautiful mountain valley in North Georgia.  Campers will stay in a rustic cabin nestled in the forest with two fun and caring counselors per cabin. Days will be spent outside playing games, getting to know fellow campers and counselors and learning new things during our hands-on classes. Classes include herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians), wilderness survival, archery, stream ecology, and forest ecology. All campers can also take part in high ropes activities including the climbing wall, zip line, and the flying squirrel.  Cooling off in the pond, waterfall, and shallow stream is a very popular activity for everyone.

What is Operation Purple Camp

Operation Purple camps offer a free week of summer fun and are open to military – connected children from all service branches including National Guard and Reserve, Coast Guard, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, and the United States Public Health Services Commission Corps; however, priority is given to those children who will have a parent or guardian deployed 18 months prior to or after May 2020; or have a parent that has a wound, illness or injury post 9/11 (medically retired, medically discharged, active duty and reserve). If all spaces are not filled with campers who meet the criteria, the remaining camp slots are filled with any eligible military children.

Advetise

Please help the National Military Family Association promote the Operation Purple Camp. We are fortunate to have this opportunity available in Georgia this year! Base staff and extension staff have a direct line of communication with families from across our great state. Consider sharing a post on your social media sites, sending flyers home to 4-H club members, posting on your up-coming events boards, and sharing directly with families over the phone or in-person. Let’s help make sure military youth know about this opportunity so they get the support they deserve.
