One of my favorite activities as a child was playing games at my Nana’s house. My cousins and I would pull out Connect Four, Clue, Chutes and Ladders, Uno, the Nintendo, and other fun games. We would literally play for hours winning or losing at the various games. So, when I heard about bringing a favorite board game to life from a 4-H Agent in Arizona I had to give it a try!

Clue is a guessing game of “Who Done It.” You create a personal strategy of recording your guesses, moving to new locations to make guesses, and possibly even teaming up with other players to solve the mystery. When I was a child I would play this game with my cousins on the floor; however, today this game has been recreated for dinner parties or for live action play in various locations. The games of our childhood can be revisited for new fun possibilities. Have you ever considered recreating a game for your purposes at your base, county office, or school?

This activity is perfect for a day camp, residential camp, or afterschool program. You can easily adapt the plans to fit your lesson theme or adjust it for the facility.  The game is designed for youth to be able to make their own decisions and develop their own strategy to solve the mystery. The plan allows them to be active rather then stationary, which can be a welcome relief for students who spend most of their day at a desk. The possibilities are endless and I hope you find this activity useful and most of all that your youth love it. I am currently working with a 1st grade teacher to create it into a lesson plan to review the historical figures her students learn about throughout the year. We are working on turning this just for fun activity into an educational tool too. I have also created the plan to work 10 youth all the way up to 60 youth at a time, so no matter the size or space this activity is adaptable for the needs of the event or educational opportunity. Feel free to comment below with your ideas on how to use this activity or let us know how it goes after you use it. We would love to hear feedback!

You can plan your own Clue activity for your next lesson, day camp, or leadership training event. If you would like to see the Clue Activities that I, Laura, have created please send an email to laurwalt@uga.edu. I currently have a clue activity plan for Wahsega 4-H Center, Jekyll 4-H Center, a county office, and a 1st-grade classroom. I am happy to brainstorm with you on how you can use the above plans or how to create your very own clue activity.
