Have you found yourself doing the same old thing when it comes to community service? Yes, community service is a great teaching tool for adolescents and adults; however, it is never a bad idea to change up ways we give back to our communities or how we provide support to others. Below is a list of ideas to use when planning your next community service event. If you have some other ideas please feel free to comment on the post, so others can use this as brainstorm list too.

Create a Tutoring Club for younger youth

Volunteer at a school or community garden

Collect supplies and/or volunteer time to the garden upkeep

Volunteer to clean up an elderly person, single mom, disabled, or terminally sick people’s home

Connect with a local church or local non-profit to find someone in need

Assist or start a local technology and medicine recycle event

Host a game day/afternoon at a nursing home for the residents

Connect with the local Senior Citizen club to do a co-fundraiser or event

Partner with another youth organization to provide a community event that focuses on bettering the community or providing a safe, fun, and family friendly event.

Create random notes of encouragement or pictures to distribute throughout the community

Volunteer with a Meals on Wheels organization or create your own Meals on Wheels club or do as a one-day event to reach shut-ins within your community

Volunteer on the coast to help with various marine life causes such as: oysters, manatees, and endangered fish

Restore a riparian habitat by collecting donations for plants and planting supplies followed by a planting day

Host an educational sewing camp where all items are donated to families in need

Host a peanut butter and jelly sandwich making day that includes delivering the sandwiches along with other items to homeless people

Collect items such as make up, clothes, and toiletries for a Women’s Shelter

Collect books for youth at a hospital, women’s shelter, homeless shelter, or other like location

Make dog toys for the animal shelter along with collecting needed items for the shelter to care for the animals

Host a free day camp or evening to give parents a break

Host a cookie baking event/camp that includes delivering the cookies to first responders
