A great way for military teens to get involved with 4-H, their community, and their “new” state they live in is through participating in statewide 4-H activities.  Each year high school teens from across the state come together in December to learn, volunteer, socialize, and have fun.

Fall Forum is a recreational and educational opportunity planned for 9th-12th grades. The weekend includes a mix of workshops and education sessions, along with opportunities for community service and exhibits, all planned by and led by 4-H’ers. Recreational programs for 4-H’ers are included to allow 4-H’ers to interact with youth from all over Georgia.

Georgia 4-H’ers have been collecting can food items for Fall Forum for several years now and in 2018 we continue to encourage participants to bring in items to donate. Another long lasting tradition is the 4k for 4-H race. The race not only promotes healthy living, but the runners registration fee of $12 along with anything else raised goes to support valuable 4-H Scholarships.

Fall Forum will be held on December 8-9, 2018. Teens can register by contacting their local UGA Extension office (Example: Lowndes County Extension Office). The cost for the weekend is $72,00; however, this can vary depending on travel cost, extra meals/lodging for Friday night stay, and the like. To learn more about travel plans, costs, chaperones for the weekend, and other event details I encourage parents, military staff, and teens to again reach out to your local county 4-H staff. This is an awesome event for high schools teens and is a great way to spark teens interest in 4-H.
