A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

The UGA Extension team broke ground on a new pecan orchard on Wednesday February 3, 2021. The new orchard is a five acre research and demonstration plot located at the Vidalia Onion and Vegetable Research Center out past the Georgia State Prison between Reidsville and Lyons. The project was headed up by the Area Pecan Agent for Southeast Georgia ,Andrew Sawyer, who enlisted the help of several county extension agents from Southeast District to assist with the planting. This new orchard will provide great opportunities for growers to receive research data that is local to Southeast Georgia. The plans are to conduct field days and pruning work shops for growers to attend. This orchard will not be sprayed like a conventional orchard with the hopes to observe which varieties will show the best disease and pest resistance.
