The UGA Extension Diabetes Prevention Program team travelled to Macon, Georgia this week for new lifestyle coach training. Ali Berg, Professor and Extension Nutrition and Health Specialist, and Beth Kindamo, Assistant Nutrition Educator and Program Coordinator, have both completed the Master Trainer Select program through Emory Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center. As Master Trainer Selects, Ali and Beth are eligible to train lifestyle coaches within the UGA Extension organization and defined network for the CDC-led lifestyle change program. This week, we welcomed six new lifestyle coaches to our Diabetes Prevention Program team.

Lifestyle coaches for the program complete an initial 2.5 day training which allows them to offer the Diabetes Prevention Program (also known as PreventT2) in their community or through online meetings. In addition to the initial training, coaches are required to document a minimum of two hours of Advanced Coach Training annually to maintain their status.

This training group was comprised of Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agents from throughout the state of Georgia. Please join us in welcoming them to UGA Extension’s Diabetes Prevention Program team. We’re thrilled that over one third of our UGA FACS Extension Agents have chosen to complete training for this evidence-based, research-tested lifestyle change program. Thank you to the Bibb County Extension Office for their hospitality in hosting this training.
