Cotton Defoliation – Week of 10/26/26

Below is taken from comments from Dr. Camp Hand:

This week looks nearly identical to last. Near no chance of rain, highs get up to 80, while the lows hover around 60 or less. To me this means similar recipe to last week.

Recipes for the week:

12 oz/acre tribufos (Folex/Def) (OR a PPO herbicide) +

42 oz/acre ethephon (Prep/Super Boll/Setup) – assuming there are still bolls to open

OR

6-8 oz/acre Ginstar/Cutout/Adios +

42 oz/acre ethephon (Prep/Super Boll/Setup)- assuming there are still bolls to open.

By now most growers have made their decision to dig. Keep in mind that when night temperatures are in low 40’s for 3 nights in a row then peanut maturity slows down significantly. Also our peanut variety trial was dug last Monday evening 10/19. Moisture was 28% the following Thursday 10/22. Today (Monday) it was 14%. Should be 12% Wednesday and we’ll complete another peanut variety trial and have good data to share.
