News, events, and happenings in Colquitt County agriculture.

Last week I had a couple of questions about applying fungicides to cotton.  Two on farm demonstrations were conducted in Colquitt County last year to evaluated the potential of increasing cotton yield with fungicides.  The demonstrations were replicated and the fungicides where applied by the grower.  The Bay location was harvested with a basket picker and weighed with a boll buggy.  The Doerun location was harvested with a roller picker and bales were weighted on a calibrated flat scale.  Below are the results of these demonstrations.

Fungicides where applied at the 3rd week of bloom and DPL 1646 was planted at both locations.  The Bay location had both target spot and Areolate Mildew.  Target spot was the main disease at the Doerun location.

The demonstrations were rated for canopy defoliation by Dr. Bob Kemerait, UGA Plant Pathologist.
