I spend most of my time talking about climate and agriculture, but I want to take just a minute to toot my horn for the Atmospheric Sciences program at the University of Georgia. They are a rapidly growing program in the Department of Geography at UGA and have grown to almost 60 majors in just a few years. Some of the students participate in the daily forecasting class, where they learn to make weather forecasts and practice making videotapes on Athens’ weather, which is distributed through their Facebook pages at https://www.facebook.com/athensgaweather and https://www.facebook.com/northgaweatherauthority. When severe weather hits, they have also been going live to stream current weather conditions and warnings. In the strong tornado that hit Newnan a few weeks ago, their live broadcast helped save lives. Some of these students have also helped me work on climatologies for our UGA weather stations. We are very proud of what they have accomplished and their service to the community!
