As I write this on Sunday afternoon, rain has moved through Alabama and is currently moving through northwestern Georgia. By the time I get my blueberry muffins out of the oven (in just a few minutes), the rain should be ready to start falling in Athens. Other regions in the Southeast will also see more than one round of rain this week. Most of the region will see at least an inch of rain, which is desperately needed, although may be coming too late for some and may not be good for harvest conditions for others. The driest part of the region will be southwest Georgia and western Florida other than the far western Panhandle near Mobile. Rain will fall in Georgia all day on Monday and will move off to the northeast. A second round of rain will occur on Tuesday night into Wednesday in northern Alabama and NW Georgia and then will also move off to the east. Rain amounts later in the week will be lighter, especially as the end of the week approaches. Temperatures will also be much colder in most of the region. This will give you a chance to bring out your fall and winter sweaters and start thinking about the holidays. After this rainy week, weeks 2-4 look like they will go back to drier than normal conditions for the first half of November, but cool conditions are expected to remain for at least week 2.
