NOAA put out a very useful primer on how to use climate data on their blog this week. It describes how climate data are used and where to get what you need. If you need climate data in your work or your kids need it for school, you can check out their instructions at https://www.climate.gov/maps-data/primer/climate-data-primer.
You can also contact your local state climatologist or regional climate center–they use the data all the time and often can help you find what you need quickly and even deliver it to you. Look for your local SC at https://www.stateclimate.org or the Southeast Regional Climate Center at https://www.sercc.com.
