I was shopping at the grocery store this week and found my first Georgia peaches of the year packed and ready to go. The ones I bought were a little small and firm, but they look and taste good. Vegetable and Specialty Crop News posted a story this week quoting UGA Extension agent Jeff Cook on this year’s crop. The dry weather has not hurt the peaches too much, since most producers irrigate. However, the hot weather has caused the peaches to size earlier than usual, meaning they are a bit smaller than average. But the crop looks good and did not experience too much yield loss from the frosty conditions earlier in the year. Now is the time to go out and find some for yourself!
