Earlier this week I noted the new Georgia Climate Research Roadmap that was produced by a number of scientists and stakeholders from around the State of Georgia. The Roadmap provides a list of the 40 most pressing problems we scientists think are the most important research questions that need to be addressed as Georgia’s climate changes over time. The themes for these questions are divided into eight sections as shown in the graphic below. If it’s too small to read, they are: Weather and Climate; Ecosystems in Georgia; Oceans and Coasts; Agriculture, Forestry and Food; Water; Energy and Transportation; Human Health; Communities and Infrastructure; Human Values, Social Equity, and Environmental Justice; and Mitigation and Adaptation across multiple sectors and scales. My plan is to highlight one of these questions each week to show you what we think are some of the key unanswered questions that should be addressed in future research. Tomorrow I will start with the first one from Weather and Climate, and then I will do one each week until we have covered all 40 questions. I hope they will provide food for thought and show you just how much we still need to understand about our state.
