The strong low pressure system that caused so much damage to the central US had hurricane-force winds associated with it along with the snow and rain that led to massive flooding in northeastern Nebraska and surrounding areas. Normally high tunnel structures are not built strongly enough to survive those kinds of winds. But this article in Vegetable Growers News points out that some fortified high tunnel structures built by Texas A&M AgriLife in Amarillo TX survived winds of 85-90 mph in the cyclone because of the way they were built. Some of the building techniques might be applicable to high tunnels built in areas subject to hurricane winds, too.
