In this blog I talk a lot about El Niño, La Niña and ENSO and their impacts on the climate of the Southeast, which are statistically quite significant, at least in winter.  But there are other atmospheric oscillations that can also affect climate over time.  One of these other oscillations is the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.  The PDO is also related to wide-scale ocean temperature oscillations, but they occur on a longer time scale than the ENSO oscillations.  This article explains what the PDO is and how it relates to ENSO and to the climate in the Southeast: https://www.climate.gov/news-features/blogs/enso/going-out-ice-cream-first-date-pacific-decadal-oscillation.
