Another week of mostly dry weather is expected this week. This dry spell comes at a critical time for our farmers trying to plant cotton and peanuts and as well as some corn and other crops. Dry conditions can lead to added stress and disease potential on young plants and can also make it difficult for seeds to germinate due to the lack of moisture, leading to the possibility of having to reseed to ensure an adequate stand of plants. The latest 7-day QPF map shows that little to no rain is expected over the next week. No big pattern shift is seen in the next 2-3 weeks, which could lead to even more stress on farmers, especially those on unirrigated land.
