The latest 7-day QPF forecast this week shows that nearly all of the region will be dry this week. The exception is Florida, which is expected to be affected by soon-to-be Hurricane Milton early and mid-week as it is likely to make landfall somewhere along the west coast. Like Helene, there is expected to be a Precursor Rain Event (PRE) which will drop rain early in the week while Milton is still making its way eastward across the Gulf of Mexico and a second rainfall event as the storm moves over the peninsula. The exact rainfall amounts are going to depend on the timing and track of the center of Milton so focus on the amounts more than the actual pattern and understand that the rainfall from the PRE will saturate the ground even before the main rainfall from Milton starts falling. See related post on Milton in today’s blog.
