Note that if you have your phone on at 2:20 EDT on Wednesday, October 4, you will here an emergency alert on your cell phones, televisions, and radios. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Federal Communications Commission are scheduled to test their National Wireless Emergency Alert System at that time. The run-through will actually consist of two parts, the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). The former will transmit to radios and TVs, while the latter will issue to all consumer cell phones, according to FEMA’s announcement earlier this month. It won’t be a big deal but it’s important to test it so that they know it will work in the case of a real emergency, weather or otherwise.
