The latest seasonal outlook for October through December 2022 was released last week. It shows a pattern that is very typical of a La Nina winter, not a big surprise since we know we are in one now. Warmer and drier than normal conditions are likely to occur over a good part of the Southeast, with the lowest likelihood in northern parts of the region. Drought is likely to continue to expand for the next few weeks, especially in Alabama, although impacts will be somewhat limited since a lot of crops are finished for the year. These conditions are likely to continue into the January through March 2023 period as La Nina continues and then starts to wane.
