It’s March, and that means that it is time for the annual competition to sign up new observers for CoCoRaHS, the citizen science network for precipitation measurements. Every year we have a friendly competition between states to see who can sign up the most new observers. Today, the North Carolina Climate Office posted a great blog entry on why you should join CoCoRaHS. Even if you are not in NC, you can sign up for your location and add to the fun of competition across the US. And we all benefit by getting better rainfall observation that give us a better picture of how variable the rain is across the region. The blog post describing the history of CoCoRaHS is at https://climate.ncsu.edu/climateblog?id=335&h=5666e5c1 or you can go right to the CoCoRaHS site to watch videos and read more about the network at https://www.cocorahs.org/. I’ve been an observer since 2008 when the network first began in Georgia. It’s an easy 5 minutes a day or less and I get to pay more attention to my local weather than I would otherwise.
