Do you drink coffee? How would you feel if it went away? I have previously written about the effects of a warming climate on the production of coffee, in particular the arabica beans which are the higher quality coffee bean. Scientists previously felt that the lower-quality robusta beans would grow in a wider variety of climates and so could replace the arabica beans in the future if arabica beans could not be grown as the climate gets warmer.
But a new study shows that the robusta beans are more sensitive to climate than originally thought, and so your morning coffee is in more danger than was previously thought. Of course, scientists are working on new varieties which will grow better in warmer conditions, so don’t give up hope yet! You can read more at Massive Science here.
