The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that drought conditions improved by one category over large portions of northern Florida as well as southern Alabama and southwestern Georgia. The area of exceptional (D4) drought in SWGA was removed, and drought conditions also improved in southeast North Carolina as well as northern Virginia. However, drought got worse in SE Florida as well as northeastern Alabama, parts of southern Tennessee, and western North Carolina, which largely missed the rain. With almost no rain in the forecast for the next week, I don’t expect to see many changes in next week’s map. Puerto Rico continued to see abnormally dry (D0) conditions but no drought is present there at this time.
