The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that drought increased in Florida and southern AL and GA, but improved in northern GA and AL as well as the Carolinas. There were some additional small slivers of drought noted along the coast of NC and SC. Puerto Rico did not have any change from last week. Most of the improvement was due to the rain that fell over northern parts of the region this weekend and yesterday with fronts that moved through the area. The next few days are expected to be mostly dry but we could see some rain early next week, although it is not likely to be enough to cause significant changes in next week’s DM. The Week 2 forecast shows drier conditions returning, and this is currently predicted to continue into weeks 3 and 4, so the improvements could be short-lived.
