The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows an expansion of extreme (D3) drought in southern Georgia and the Florida Panhandle and in western Alabama as well as the addition of a new area near Atlanta. Many other parts of the region also experienced worsening conditions due to the significantly lower than average rainfall this month so far (see other post today). The only area that improved was a small sliver of western Alabama which received some needed rain. Abnormally dry conditions also expanded slightly in Puerto Rico this week.
