The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that nearly all of Florida dropped a category this week, showing the drought there is getting worse due to the lack of rain. The drought also got stronger in parts of North Carolina and Virginia. Rain in northeast Georgia and the western parts of North and South Carolina improved the drought there. Nearly everywhere in the region is expected to get at least 1/4 inch of rain, but the lowest amounts will continue to be over Florida and the adjacent areas of Georgia and Florida, so drought may not improve in those areas. Puerto Rico continues to be free of dry conditions.
