The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows more improvements in drought and abnormally dry conditions in eastern North Carolina and north and south Alabama today due to recent rains. Puerto Rico also experienced a reduction in the area of abnormally dry conditions although their moderate (D1) drought area did not change. Most rain in the next week will be in Alabama and Georgia, so we may see additional improvements there, but it will be fairly dry in the eastern half of the region so I don’t expect any changes there. Warm temperatures the next couple of days will accelerate water use but cooler temperatures are expected after that.
