The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that there was a small decrease in drought coverage in the southern part of the region, while drought expanded slightly in northern states of our region. The biggest improvement was in Florida, which experienced quite a bit of rain in the last week. Drought expanded in northern Alabama and far northern Virginia while abnormally dry conditions expanded in North Carolina. Rainfall this coming week is expected to improve conditions in Virginia and North Carolina but is not expected to have much impact on the rest of the region’s drought.
