The January 2023 climate so far this month has been warmer than usual across the region, with the highest deviations in the northern part of the Southeast. Rainfall has been quite variable, with northern areas receiving the most and southern areas observing quite a bit less. But based on the rainfall that I see has fallen today, I think a lot of the precipitation shortage that we see in coastal Georgia and Florida has been erased by widespread rains of 1.5 inches or more with a few scattered areas of over 3 inches on Sunday alone. The next week looks like it should continue to be above normal in temperature, although that may be fading by the end of the month, and more rain is likely, which will also reduce the moisture deficit.
