While the final values for the temperature and climate of the Southeast in 2022 are not complete yet, we can still look at preliminary values to see how the year ended. The pattern generally agrees with what we expect from the persistent La Nina conditions. The maps from the High Plains Regional Climate Center show that nearly all of the Southeast experienced warmer than normal temperatures, with just a few scattered areas measuring cooler than normal conditions.

Precipitation as usual was more varied due to smaller-scale rain events. Most of the region was drier than normal, with the driest areas in eastern North Carolina, southern Georgia and southern Florida away from the coasts. The wettest areas were most of Alabama, the Southern Appalachians, and the central Florida peninsula, which experienced extremely heavy rains from Hurricane Ian and some additional rain from Hurricane Nicole late in the season.

Final statistics will be provided once the year is complete and the data have gone through quality control.
