The latest tropical outlook for TS Henri indicates that it is now likely to hit Long Island, New York, with a chance of hitting the Big City itself. I lived there for two years and have a hard time imagining how wild it would be with hurricane-force winds whipping through the skyscrapers. If you have friends or relatives living in New Jersey, New York, or New England, I hope they are taking care and preparing for the storm. There is a chance it could be a minimal hurricane as it makes landfall, although it could just be a strong tropical storm if it does not quite pull itself together. Since they don’t get hit very often, people there may not be as used to preparing as we are in the Southeast.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Gloria is headed towards a second landfall in Mexico, perhaps as the first major hurricane of the year. Nothing else on the horizon for us. There is a small disturbance in the eastern Atlantic, but it does not look likely to affect us so we may see some relief from the tropics for a week or two. But we still have half the season to go, so more are likely to come our way before the end of 2021.
