If you are reading the digest version of this blog, you will probably see it on Sunday, June 6. That date is the anniversary of D-Day, the invasion at Normandy Beach. I had the privilege of visiting there in 1980 and camped near the beach as part of a tour of Europe after college. It was amazing to see the cliffs and beaches there and to realize how awful it was for the troops who waded ashore there. You might not know that the weather played a significant factor in choosing the date of the invasion. Alicia Wasula of Shade Tree Meteorology has an interesting blog post describing the weather forecasts and conditions on the day of the invasion that you might enjoy reading.
