The heavy rain that fell last weekend in southern Georgia and adjacent areas of AL and SC removed the abnormally dry (D0) conditions in that part of the region. However, the lack of rain in North Carolina expanded the D0 conditions there. Rainfall amounts in the next week should be fairly low in most of the Southeast with the exception of Alabama and the western edge of Georgia, so I don’t think those NC dry conditions will disappear in next week’s map, although we may see reductions in AL. Moderate (D1) drought and abnormally dry conditions in Puerto Rico took a big jump this week, with 14 percent in drought and another 77 percent abnormally dry.
