The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that for most of the Southeast, the amount of moderate (D1) drought stayed close to what was observed last week. However, in Georgia the moderate drought area increased from 9 to 13 percent. Some areas received rain and lost their drought status while several other small and scattered areas popped up. Since most of the dry areas are only expected to get about 0.25 inches in the next week under warmer than normal temperatures, we could see an expansion of moderate drought on next week’s map.
