The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that the small areas of moderate drought in parts of Georgia and South Carolina have been reduced by about 40 percent this week due to rainfall in the driest locations. Abnormally dry conditions expanded in the Florida Peninsula due to lack of rain and warm temperatures there. Dry conditions may continue to decline in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina in the next week as most areas should receive well over an inch of rain. However, the rain will largely skip Florida, so dry conditions could continue to expand there.
