The preliminary October maps for temperature and precipitation from the High Plains Regional Climate Center show that temperatures across the region were above normal in temperature. This may have contributed to the delay in the onset of fall colors across the region.  Rainfall was variable across the area, with some areas receiving much more than normal while others were fairly dry. The drier areas were designated as abnormally dry or even as in moderate drought by the end of the month.  The areas of heaviest rain were primarily affected by Hurricane Nate early in the month and Tropical Storm Philippe near the end of the month in south Florida.
