Dr. Jeff Lee, a professor of geosciences from Texas Tech, is featured in this videotaped lecture about causes of the Dust Bowl and whether a similar pattern could occur again.  The video is about 30 minutes long and is best at discussing the causes of the Dust Bowl.  It’s not the highest quality, but you might be interested in the historical perspective.  Could the Dust Bowl happen in the Southeast?  It is unlikely due to improvements in farming practices and the greater availability of water for irrigation compared to the region most affected by the 1930s droughts.  The increased use of cover crops and smart irrigation techniques also makes it less likely.
