Discover magazine published a story yesterday discussing the first of several news releases describing the ramp-up in global temperature that was observed in October.  According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, this past October was the warmest in a record stretching back 1891, with a global average temperature for the month coming in at 0.85°C above the 20th century average.  Several independent data analyses of global temperature will be released in the next few days, including measurements from NASA and NOAA, and are expected to show similar increases in temperature.  You can read the story here.
