NOAA has released their latest set of climate predictions for the upcoming months. Their May outlook shows equal chances of above, below or near normal temperature in the Southeast, but a continuation of hot conditions in the West and cooler than normal temperatures likely in Texas and the Northeast. Precipitation in May shows a slightly increased chance of above normal values in southern Georgia and Alabama and northern Florida.
In May through July, the outlook shows a increased chance of warmer and wetter than normal conditions in Florida and adjacent areas of Alabama and Georgia, while the West Coast is expected to continue to be warmer than normal. The above normal precipitation reflects the presence of El Nino, which is expected to continue for the next few months and may extend into next winter. In El Nino winters, the Southeast generally has cooler and wetter winters than usual, especially in southern Georgia and Alabama and into Florida.
