Two cyclones (or hurricanes, as they are known in the Atlantic) in the western Pacific Ocean may be combining forces to enhance the development of a budding El Nino. The circulation around Bavi in the Northern Hemisphere is counterclockwise, while the circulation around Pam in the Southern Hemisphere is clockwise, leading to enhanced winds from the west near the equator due to both storms.  This may help drive the movement of warm water eastward towards the east coast of the Pacific near Peru and Ecuador and enhance the warming from El Nino which has been recently observed.

The picture below from https://earth.nullschool.net/ on March 11 shows the position of the two storms.  Hurricane Pam has since moved southward over Vanuatu and has reportedly devastated the island nation there before continuing south towards New Zealand, although damage reports are sketchy so far due to communications problems.
