Adopt a Wetland Training for McIntosh CountyFlyer for AAW
Darien, GA McIntosh County Extension invites the public to an Adopt-A-Wetland volunteer training on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Fort King George from 9:00am -1:00pm. The training is free and open to the public.
Coastal Georgia Adopt-A-Wetland is a program of University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. Through this program, volunteers are trained to be citizen scientists. Volunteers collect data monthly to monitor wetland health. The training will cover chemical testing (pH, dissolved oxygen) and biological monitoring of aquatic macroinvertebrates, as well as more advanced data collection options.
McIntosh County is composed of 45% wetland ecosystem – the highest density of wetlands of all the coastal Georgia counties (DNR, 2012). Adopt-A-Wetland volunteers help expand the reach of monitoring efforts to more of Georgia’s wetlands. Volunteers can perform data collection from any location in the county where they can access the site monthly – private docks or public access points.
To register for the training contact Luke Roberson, Adopt-A-Wetland Coordinator: 912-598-2446.
