A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

UGA Extension was recently informed that a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has been confirmed in Sumter Co., Georgia. The outbreak is on a commercial duck operation. The operation is large enough that USDA/APHIS will put export restrictions in place for poultry. It is important to remember that migratory waterfowl are natural carriers of highly pathogenic avian influenza. It would be worth while for small flock owners to practice good bio-security measures. The following link includes a statement from Ga. Dept. of Ag. regarding HPAI: https://agr.georgia.gov/avian-influenza?src=spotlight

As always, contact the Burke Co. Extension Office at (706)554-2119 if you have questions.
