{"id":619,"date":"2019-08-23T15:25:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T19:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/?p=619"},"modified":"2019-08-23T15:29:58","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T19:29:58","slug":"crop-update-for-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/2019\/08\/crop-update-for-the-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Crop Update for the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Worth County growers, we have many thing going on this week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>CORN<\/h3>\n<p>Corn harvest has been going strong.\u00a0 Rain events have slowed harvest in places, but corn is coming out of the field quickly in many parts of the county.<\/p>\n<h3>PEANUTS<\/h3>\n<p>We began peanut maturity clinics this week at the regular locations.\u00a0 Plan to bring some samples to see how the crop is maturing on your farm.\u00a0 In peanuts, we have also been visiting fields with some issues at this time.\u00a0 White mold hits are increasing in many fields at this time &#8211; it is at the following link: <a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/peanutent\/\">https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/peanutent\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>COTTON<\/h3>\n<p>Cotton is moving along quickly, and some fields are ready for defoliation.\u00a0 Speaking of defoliation, Worth County Extension hosted a Cotton Defoliation meeting yesterday with Dr. Jared Whitaker (UGA Cotton Agronomist) presenting timely information for our cotton growers.\u00a0 If you happened to miss the meeting, we have information available at the Extension Office.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_620\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-620\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-620\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/files\/2019\/08\/IMG_1353-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/files\/2019\/08\/IMG_1353-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/files\/2019\/08\/IMG_1353-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/worthag\/files\/2019\/08\/IMG_1353.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cotton Defoliation, Dr. Jared Whitaker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More cotton fields have hit threshold for Silverleaf Whiteflies (SLWF) this week.\u00a0 In many cases, the later planted cotton that has new growth, young and tender leaves seem to be the most attractive fields for SLWF at this time.\u00a0 Keep a close watch on cotton fields for this troublesome pest.\u00a0 Spider mites have also been present in many fields, but at low levels.\u00a0 In hot and dry conditions, spider mite populations can increase, so be checking for them, too.<\/p>\n<p>As always, please give us a call at the Worth County Extension Office if we can help you with questions or concerns.\u00a0 Looking forward to seeing you soon!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Worth County growers, we have many thing going on this week.
