Grain Sorghum Information and Guide

There has been a few calls about interest in planting grain sorghum this year for various reasons.

Some important factors to consider are hybrid selection for sugarcane aphid tolerance, maturity, and having seed treated with Concep safener so that Dual herbicide may be used.

Grain Sorghum liked well drained soil and has wide pH rang tolerance. It is also important to consider what was planted before and herbicides used so that plant back intervals are followed.

Dr. Buntin provided a table of some popular sorghum varieties planted in the state and includes maturity and sugarcane aphid tolerance. Dr. Buntin did mention W-7051 might not be a good choice for our area.
