We need to apply POST treatments and cannot get in the field. Here are some thoughts from UGA Extension Weed Scientist Dr. Erik Prostko:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">1)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">Most areas in Georgia have received at least 4&#8243; of rain or more since May 12. This has resulted in many problems including Valor injury (<i>no surprise)<\/i> and\/or the failure to get PRE herbicides applied.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_553\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-553\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-553\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/9B3AD76B-8229-4A1D-9280-35A3624664F4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/9B3AD76B-8229-4A1D-9280-35A3624664F4.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/9B3AD76B-8229-4A1D-9280-35A3624664F4-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/9B3AD76B-8229-4A1D-9280-35A3624664F4-104x138.jpeg 104w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-553\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Valor injury<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2) Peanut growers who were planning on spraying Gramoxone + Storm\/Basagran + Dual\/Warrant\/Zidua will very likely miss the ~33-38 DAP (28 DAC) labeled application window.\u00a0 If they miss that window, they need to pull the trigger on something else (#3 below).\u00a0 The following is some weed-free data I collected a few years ago regarding the response of GA-06G to various timings of Gramoxone + Basagran (Figure 2):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-549\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/PeanutWeedResponse-Prostko-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"722\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/PeanutWeedResponse-Prostko-2018.jpg 722w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/PeanutWeedResponse-Prostko-2018-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/wilcoxcoag\/files\/2018\/05\/PeanutWeedResponse-Prostko-2018-185x138.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">3) Peanut growers who have missed the Gramoxone window should consider applying the following as soon as the weather permits:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">Cadre + 2,4-DB + Dual\/Warrant\/Zidua (assuming ALS-resistance is <b><i><u>NOT<\/u><\/i><\/b> present and crop rotations are acceptable)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">OR Cobra or Ultra Blazer + 2,4-DB + Dual\/Warrant\/Zidua (assuming ALS resistance is present).\u00a0 Check out Figure 3 for a recent picture of Ultra Blazer&#8217;s effectiveness on pigweed when applied correctly (rate, timing, GPA, nozzle, speed).\u00a0 I would expect the very same from Cobra<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">Some peanut growers have tank-mixed Cadre + Cobra\/Ultra Blazer + 2,4-DB + Dual\/Warrant\/Zidua and have not had any major problems.\u00a0 But, I do not have a ton of data to support this 4-way mixture (1 test) but currently have another trial in the field right now to investigate.\u00a0 Hope to spray that this week.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">4) Soybean growers who have run into some weather troubles might want to consider the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">Avoid herbicide applications when soybeans are cracking.\u00a0 For whatever reason, soybeans tend to be more sensitive to injury from herbicides during this stage of growth and current environmental conditions (i.e. wet), including residual herbicides such as Valor, Prowl, and Zidua.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">My preference would be for POST herbicide applications in soybean to occur at the V1 stage (1 trifoliolate leaf) or later (Figure 4).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif\">The following would be good POST + residual weed control options for soybean fields in need:<\/span><\/span><b>RR soybeans:<\/b> glyphosate + Reflex or Prefix or Warrant Ultra<b>LL soybeans:<\/b> Liberty + Reflex or Dual Magnum or Warrant<b>Xtend soybeans:<\/b>\u00a0 glyphosate + Xtendimax or Engenia or Fexapan + Warrant or Dual Magnum [check current web-sites for drift reducing adjuvant (DRA) requirements]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been raining almost every day since May 12 and Valor damage in peanuts is everywhere.
