The Ogallaha Aquifer underlies the states of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. According to an Ogallala Water Coordinated Agriculture Project, CAP, report, the aquifer supplies water for about 25% of U.S. agricultural production and more than 40% of U.S. feedlot beef cattle. It also supplies drinking water for 82% of the people living within its boundaries. The Ogallala Aquifer elevation is declining and there is a summit of the eight mentioned states scheduled to discuss how the region can work together to conserve the water resources.
