On August 3-4, 2017 Brenda Jackson, Murray County Agricultural and Natural Resources Extension Agent and County Coordinator, and other UGA Extension faculty attended and presented a poster at the National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) Southern Region Professional Improvement Meeting held in Chattanooga, TN.  Her poster was titled “Water Quality Education in UGA Extension”.  Brenda provides the following write-up of the event:

The Southern Urban Extension Summit was a 1.5 day meeting to provide a forum for Extension professionals to discuss issues that are specific to working with urban populations. A key focus of the Summit is to highlight innovative programs and program models in three areas: Youth, Urban Agriculture and Distressed Communities. About 60 folks attended from across the southern region and Georgia was well represented. Oral presentations were given by Lynwood Blackmon (Food Deserts Harvest Fresh Vegetables) and Brittany Kelley (Mapping Your Future: Career Exploration for Elementary and Middle School Students). Poster presentations were done by Brenda Jackson (Water Quality Education in UGA Extension); Vonsuela Baker & Lynwood Blackmon (Fresh on DeK Mobile Farmers Market Provides Increased Access and Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables); Pamela Bloch (Making Friends, One Farm Friend at a Time); Josh Fuder (Seed Libraries: Connecting Community); Brittani Kelley (College 101 Series: Preparing Youth and Parents for Post-Secondary Education);  Laurie Murrah-Hanson, Kristen Sumpter & Jeremy Cheney (Fulton Fresh – Growing Communities One Plate at a Time); Rolando Orellana, Alfredo Martinez & Ellen Bauske (Chainsaw Safety Training for Landscape and Tree Care Workers); Kristen Sumpter & Ines Beltran (The Science of Canning: Urban FACS Agents Work Together with the Atlanta Science Festival); and Marie Trice (An Urban Approach to 4-H).

Thanks to Brenda and the other UGA Faculty that represented UGA Extension and all of the good work our UGA Extension Agents are doing in Georgia.
