U.S. Drought Monitor for December 27, 2016:
For the contiguous 48 states, the U.S. Drought Monitor showed 24.04 percent of the area in moderate drought or worse, compared with 28.16 percent a week earlier.
Drought now affects 126,614,948 people, compared with 133,805,866 a week earlier.
For all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor showed 20.09 percent of the area in moderate drought or worse, compared with 23.53 percent a week earlier.
Drought now affects 126,630,973 people, compared with 133,821,892 a week earlier.
