Sean Callahan, principal of Sharon Elementary in Walton County, says Walk Georgia helped his school become more health conscious.
When they first started three years ago, the participation was minimal with only three teams. As other participants have also found, the rivalry between teams was intense. The rest of the staff saw how much fun the participants were having, and by 2012 they were up to six teams.
“Walk Georgia has been a tremendous addition to our work day,” said Principal Callahan. “We even added it to the the moring announcement (once a week), giving the totals of which team was in the lead.”
Not only did this generate enthusiasm among staff, but among students as well. Students especially wanted to know if their favorite teacher’s team was winning.
He hopes that for 2013 the number of teams will increase.
