In the spirit of National Diabetes Education Week, we thought it would be fun to talk about our favorite “sweet substitutions”. We’re not talking about loading up on artificial sweeteners here, we’re talking about solutions we know will work for all the I-need-a-pick-me-up-NOW panics that usually lead to an unhealthy caloric intake.
Feeling tired? Exercising stimulates the brain, so even if you simply get up and walk around the room, walk outside, or run in place, you’re doing yourself (and your brain) a favor! Do what you can, and don’t worry if it’s perfect or even looks like exercise!
Feeling a sugar craving? That’s ok, just divert it! Instead of a cookie, or a snack, first try some hot tea. You’ll eliminate your extra sugar and carb intake and still have something comforting touching those lips! Our hot favorites? Sweet Cinnamon Spice Tea, Peppermint Tea, and Honey Lemon Ginseng Tea!
Feeling distracted? Are you cold? Turn up the temp, or put on an extra sweater and some socks. A recent Cornell University study found that productivity increased by 150% when office temperatures were raised from 68 degrees to a toasty 77 degrees! Not only was productivity increased, errors were minimized by 44%!
Feeling angry or defeated? Are you tired? Step back and think about how much sleep, or the quality of sleep, you received last night. Make a commitment to power through without the pantry and turn in an hour or two early tonight!
So repeat after us: Walk. Sip. Warm. Sleep. Repeat!
